Hello!
Bethany Tasaka is a Professor of Mathematics at San Bernardino Valley College, where she strives to foster equity, culturally responsive teaching, and student-centered learning in both her classroom and leadership roles. As a hapa woman in STEM, Bethany understands the importance of visibility and representation in academic spaces where too many have been made to feel like they don’t belong. She is committed to expanding access and affirming the presence of those who are often the “only” in the room.
A proud product of the Inland Empire, Bethany earned both her undergraduate and graduate degrees in Mathematics from California State University, San Bernardino. Raised by lifelong educators and pastors, she was taught to value service, humility, and purpose. She believes deeply that education has the power to transform lives, that leadership exists throughout our faculty body, and that we grow stronger when we work and lead together. Bethany is committed to creating opportunities for others to step into leadership, uplifting voices that have often been left out, and supporting lasting change through community and collective effort.
Bethany has taken on a variety of campus and statewide leadership roles, including curriculum chair, academic senate officer, founding member and past chair of the ASCCC Asian and Pacific Islander Caucus, and interim management positions. She has contributed to efforts that build culturally grounded learning communities and districtwide employee resource groups.
When she’s not working, Bethany loves movies (especially horror!), crafting, and spending quality time with loved ones.
